An Independent’s, moderate’s, and millennial’s call to action
Christians are leaving the church in droves. In polling, about 65% of Americans identified themselves as Christians in 2019, down from 85% in 1990. Because Christians make up such a large proportion of our population, they have had a major impact on the decisions made by our government.
According to a Pew Research study done in 2016, some of the reasons a growing number of Americans do not identify with any religious group are “Christians doing un-Christian things”, seeing organized religious groups being more divisive than uniting, and the harm being done in the name of religion.
Religion is supposed to be good but it is often distorted by ideology. Christianity is based on the following key Bible verses. One is “…Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39). Another is “…be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.” (1 Peter 3:8). Another, “…nor thieves nor the greedy… nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:10). And “There are six things that the Lord hates,…haughty eyes, a lying tongue,…(Proverbs 6:16-19). Finally, as Deuteronomy 14 says, “To the Lord your God belong… the earth and everything in it”, and Revelation 11:18: “…and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”
In other words, the Bible states that compassion, tolerance, and fairness are good; greed, lying, and cheating are bad; and God, who owns everything on earth, doesn’t want us to destroy his world (climate change). Most importantly, Jesus clearly stated that we are to love others as ourselves.
Polls indicate that about 89% of Americans believe in God, but the number of people who are actively involved in religion is dropping, especially among the young. According to a Pew Religious Landscape Survey in 2014, 59% of moderates absolutely believe in God and 23% have a fairly certain belief in God. 47% say religion is important in their life and 29% say it is somewhat important. 31% attend religious services at least weekly and 38% attend once or twice a month or a few times a year. 50% pray at least daily. Moderates cannot allow others to impact their religious beliefs.
God represents everything good but this is not the way some in our government who claim to be religious are behaving. Lying, greed, and corruption are now common to the point where the will of the majority of Americans is often not being implemented, based on public opinion polls.
The only way to change what is going on in our country is for moderate conservatives and moderate liberals to have a say in governing our country. We need our own political party. This is the only way you can help to save our democracy and your financial future. Nothing will happen without you.
